Join the Austin Chamber Music Center for a performance of all of your favorite tunes from the holiday classic! Celebrate the season with the original Charlie Brown music of Vince Guaraldi featuring pianist Michelle Schumann, bassist Utah Hamrick, and drummer Scott Laningham. Special guests include vocalist Michelle Haché, Ephraim Owens on trumpet, and dancer Laura Malloy-Auderer. The show was recorded in the Draylen Mason Music Studio at KMFA Classical 89.5’s new home in East Austin. Enjoy this annual tradition from the comfort of your home and get in the holiday spirit!

Michelle Schumann

Hailed for her “sensitive, flexible, and tempestuous dexterity” (Fanfare Magazine), pianist Michelle Schumann has built a reputation for evocative and moving performances. Since 2006, Michelle has served as Artistic Director of the Austin Chamber Music Center, where she “is fearlessly expanding our definition of chamber music.” (Austin-American Statesman). Her brand of performance includes an enthusiastic interplay with the audience and her trademark includes bringing diverse music together under a blanket of narrative events.

Schumann is artist-in-residence and professor of piano at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and additionally holds a Performance Diploma from the Vienna Conservatory.

Utah Hamrick

Dr. Utah Hamrick is a jazz educator who holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and master’s in Bass Performance from Central Michigan University, and a DMA in Jazz Performance from the University of Texas. He currently performs with the Austin Symphony Big Band; Magnificent 7; Monster Big Band; Strings Attached; and various Austin and San Antonio artists, such as composer Graham Reynolds.

For ten years Dr. Hamrick taught at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Under his direction, the jazz ensemble received numerous recognitions, including Outstanding Collegiate Band at the Sam Houston State Jazz Festival and an invitation to perform at the 2016 TMEA conference. Dr. Hamrick was previously a bass instructor at Austin Community College and band director in the Ubly, Michigan Community Schools. In 2015 Dr. Hamrick joined the faculty at Texas State School of Music in San Marcos.

Scott Laningham

Scott Laningham began working professionally during high school in the late 1970s, performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1978 with his school ensemble, and has been a popular drummer in the Austin, Texas music scene for over 35 years. Today, he’s a core member of the award-winning soul jazz group Church on Monday, led by saxophonist Elias Haslanger, as well as TresMusicos with guitarist Mitch Watkins & bassist Chris Maresh, and Freedonia, a new Austin-based group performing original pop and including Eddy Hobizal, John Fremgen, Christopher Cross, James Fenner, Justin Vasquez, Russell Haight, and Seth Carper. He also performs frequently with Alejandro Escovedo and organist/pianist Red Young.
