Scott Laningham began working professionally during high school in the late 1970s, performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1978 with his school ensemble, and has been a popular drummer in the Austin, Texas music scene for over 35 years. Today, he’s a core member of the award-winning soul jazz group Church on Monday, led by saxophonist Elias Haslanger, as well as TresMusicos with guitarist Mitch Watkins & bassist Chris Maresh, and Freedonia, a new Austin-based group performing original pop and including Eddy Hobizal, John Fremgen, Christopher Cross, James Fenner, Justin Vasquez, Russell Haight, and Seth Carper. He also performs frequently with Alejandro Escovedo and organist/pianist Red Young.
