American pianist Patryce King strongly advocates for cultivating the arts in society. She believes whole-heartedly that building a relationship between your art, your music, and your life contributes value to the world. In her opinion, we all hold the responsibility of cultivating our spiritual gifts, providing deeper connection to one another through sharing our talents. True self-reflection happens during the pure act of practice.
Ms. King is Artistic Director of her own private piano business, King Studios. For each individual student, Ms. King designs a personal course of study to enhance the strengths of that student. Her students have been accepted to the Oberlin Conservatory and to other prestigious music schools in Austin, Texas, including the very selective collaborative piano program at McCallum Fine Arts High School. Ms. King helps students fall in love with learning and listening, traits which in turn develop compassionate leaders.
Ms. King’s formal education started at Southeast Missouri State University under the tutelage of Julliard trained professor James Sifferman. Mia Hines at Central Missouri State University, esteemed student of the great Manahem Pressler, trained Ms. King during her master’s program in chamber music. Ms. King has served as First Vice President for the Austin District Music Teachers Association and is currently the Coordinator for the Primary Division of the Austin Chamber Music Center.
Ms. King is proud to offer her ongoing Full Moon Satellite Series, a concert series designed to welcome those who would not ordinarily attend a classical music program. This offering has been a revelation in Austin, allowing those who couldn’t afford fine music to experience it live for the first time. She has played in coffee shops, bars, and even on bridges! Music is for everyone, everywhere, all the time.
Most recently, Ms. King is Grande Prize winner of the Socrates Teaching Grant from the Acton Academy, a private school honoring project-based teaching styles. Ms. King will reinvest her cash prize in the community by using it to present a Full Moon Satellite Series concert titled Gershwin Galore, a night of musical collaboration conducted by Austin Symphony Orchestra Maestro, Peter Bay.
To experience Patryce King in action at the piano is to experience joy. Her charismatic style makes audiences believe that through sound and a cultivated expression of practice, change happens…positive, peaceful and lasting transformation.
