The Karuna Quartet was founded in 2025 at Juilliard and is currently mentored by Laurie Smukler and Nina Lee. Other musical influences include Merry Peckham and Natasha Brofsky. This year, the Karunas made their Alice Tully Hall debut for Lincoln Center’s “Wednesday’s at One” series. They have also performed during Juilliard’s “Rush Hour” and “Fall Festival” series among others. Passionate educators, the Karunas hold a bi-weekly music and art appreciation course for students of Brooklyn’s Red Hook Art Project. The Karuna Quartet is guided by the Mahayana Buddhist practice of “Karuna” (compassion), embracing chamber music as a living practice of compassion.
