Thomas Gougeon

Thomas Gougeon began his musical journey as a violinist at the age of three through the Suzuki Program. Born in Toronto, Ontario, he performed in numerous local festivals and completed multiple Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. After leaving the Suzuki Program, he studied with Eri Kosaka of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Thomas later pursued his violin studies with Prof. Sandy Yamamoto at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin, where he earned both his Bachelor’s degree and Artist Diploma.

As an orchestral musician, Thomas served as concertmaster of the Roundtop Symphony Orchestra during the summer 2023 season and has performed with the Central Texas Philharmonic and the Austin Symphony Orchestra. He is also an active chamber musician, collaborating with world-renowned artists including Anton Nel, Zlatomir Fung, Daniel Ching, Bion Tsang, and Sandy Yamamoto. He appeared as a soloist with the Balcones Community Orchestra and received a fellowship from the Sarasota Music Festival, where he performed in multiple chamber recitals and orchestra concerts. Thomas has participated in masterclasses with distinguished musicians such as Kim Chee Yun, Norman Fischer, Aloysia Friedmann, Matthew Zalkind, Rohan De Silva, and Zach DePue.

Thomas now embarks on his viola journey as a founding member of the Soha Quartet, which will serve as the Young Professional String Quartet in residence at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin.
