Matthew Lyons and Stephen Krishnan are long-time collaborators in performance and composition. Stephen has premiered several works by Matthew, including duets, quartets, and a guitar concerto. The Moontower Duo is their collaboration for creating new music.
Stephen Krishnan is Grammy-Nominated guitarist and educator based in Austin. An advocate for contemporary classical music, he enjoys interdisciplinary projects. He’s been featured by Austin Classical Guitar, Ballet Austin, The Contemporary Austin, and Conspirare. Stephen performed on Conspirare’s album The Singing Guitar with the Austin Guitar Quartet, which received a Grammy Nomination in 2021. He is the Guitar Director at Orpheus Academy of Music, leads the Austin Classical Guitar Youth Sinfonia, and is adjunct faculty at Huston-Tillotson University.
Matthew Lyons is an Austin-based composer and guitarist whose diverse musical output strikes a balance between accessibility and complexity, finding influence in jazz, pop, and classical traditions. His work “The Portal,” a song-cycle inspired by Arundhati Roy’s essay “The Pandemic is a Portal,” premiered in 2022 at the Draylen Mason Recording Studio through local arts organizations Density512 and Less Than 10. Matthew’s ongoing goal is to stretch the boundaries of the modern guitar repertoire, incorporating unique elements such as live-interactive electronics and unusual playing techniques.
