Alex Molina Shawver

Alex Molina Shawver is a composer and educator based in Austin, Texas. Born and raised in Wichita Falls, he is a proud Tejano and band kid at heart. Influences on his compositional style range from the French Impressionists to living American composers associated with Minimalism and post-Minimalism. His works are usually inspired by visual art, nature, politics, or heritage.

Alex has written music for the Meadows Wind Ensemble, Tetractys New Music, Latitude 49 New Music Ensemble, Syzygy New Music Ensemble, Line Upon Line Percussion, Meadows Percussion Ensemble, the Bridge the Gap Chamber Players, and the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas. He holds M.M. degrees in Composition and Theory Pedagogy from Southern Methodist University and a B.M. in Piano Pedagogy from Texas A&M – Commerce. Alex joined the theory faculty at SMU from 2019-2021 and is currently pursuing his D.M.A. in Composition at the University of Texas. In Austin he maintains a small private piano studio, plays in the UT Conjunto ensemble, and goes to as many drag shows as he can.
