Alexander Johnson

Alexander Johnson is a composer, conductor, choral singer, and music teacher based in Austin, TX. He is currently studying for his doctoral degree in music composition at the University of Texas, where he also teaches sight-singing and serves as Assistant Director for the UT New Music Ensemble. He enjoys composing for a variety of musical ensembles, including chamber ensembles, choral ensembles, symphony and chamber orchestras, instrumental and vocal jazz, and soloists. He received his masters degree in music composition from the University of Oregon and his bachelors degree in music in theory and composition with an emphasis in jazz from Lawrence University. Alex has had original pieces premiered by the UT New Music Ensemble, Inversion Ensemble, the American Creators Chorus at the Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium (Craig Hella Johnson, director), EstelĂ­ Gomez (of Roomful of Teeth), the Sospiro Vocal Ensemble, and various vocal and instrumental ensembles at his alma mater, Lawrence University.
