About Austin Chamber Music Center
Founded in 1981, Austin Chamber Music Center (ACMC) is a year-round institution dedicated to creating chamber music experiences that connect, educate, and inspire the Central Texas community. From a national festival and a nationally recognized chamber music competition to an adult academy, school tours, and a multi-week summer workshop, ACMC brings world-class music and music education to audiences and students of all backgrounds and skill levels. Guided by a new artistic and administrative leadership team, ACMC is entering an exciting new chapter and is committed to deepening its community roots while expanding its reach.
Position Overview
The Director of Operations is a central member of ACMC’s professional staff, responsible for bringing the organization’s artistic and educational vision to life through exceptional planning, coordination, and execution. Working in close partnership with the Director of Programs, this position oversees the full arc of ACMC’s performance and event activity throughout the year, from artist relations and production logistics to community programming and education support.
This is a role for someone who thrives in a dynamic, mission-driven environment, who takes genuine pride in the details that create extraordinary experiences, and who brings both administrative discipline and a warm, collaborative spirit to everything they do.
What You’ll Do
Artist and Performance Activity (40%)
You will serve as the primary point of contact for managing the artist and performance side of ACMC’s work. This means coordinating everything needed to deliver high-quality musical experiences: artist scheduling and care, venue coordination, production logistics, and onsite support. You will work closely with production staff and contractors to ensure that the artistic and technical elements of each event come together seamlessly. Flexibility, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to the artist experience are essential in this area of the work.
Education Program Support (20%)
In collaboration with the Director of Programs, you will help execute ACMC’s education programming throughout the year. ACMC’s education work spans multiple formats and audiences, from programs for school-age students to intensive workshops and adult learning opportunities. You will coordinate logistics, support program delivery, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of educational experiences for students and community members alike.
Administration and Operations (20%)
You will contribute to the organizational infrastructure that keeps ACMC running smoothly. This includes project tracking, budgeting support, documentation of policies and procedures, and cross-departmental collaboration. You will participate in staff meetings, help evaluate and improve programs at the end of each season, and take on other responsibilities as the organization’s needs evolve.
Community Engagement (20%)
You will play a role in ACMC’s relationship with the broader Austin community, helping to organize community-facing events and supporting connections with local organizations and supporters. This work reflects ACMC’s commitment to accessibility and cultural impact beyond the concert hall.
Who You Are
You are an experienced arts or nonprofit administrator who finds meaning in the intersection of art, education, and community. You are organized and resourceful, but you lead with warmth and build trust wherever you go. You understand that great performances and programs don’t happen by accident, and you bring both the rigor and the flexibility to navigate complex logistics with calm. You are energized by collaboration, take initiative, and care deeply about the people around you, whether that’s a visiting artist, a student in a workshop, or a first-time audience member.
You are comfortable moving between the big picture and the day-to-day. You can manage multiple concurrent projects without losing sight of what matters most. And you are genuinely excited about chamber music and ACMC’s role in the cultural life of Central Texas.
Qualifications
ACMC values demonstrated ability and cultural alignment over rigid credential requirements. Strong candidates will bring:
- Relevant experience in arts administration, nonprofit management, event production, or a related field
- A track record of successfully coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder programs or events
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with an ability to manage competing priorities
- A collaborative, team-first approach to working with colleagues, artists, and community partners
- Genuine enthusiasm for ACMC’s mission and the communities it serves
Schedule and Benefits
Hybrid Work Schedule: ACMC does not have an office, so all employees primarily work from home. Meetings are held at various venues around Austin as needed. The successful candidate must be based in Austin.
Nights and Weekend Work: Availability for events, including evenings and weekends, is required given the nature of ACMC’s programming.
Paid Time Off: Six weeks of paid time off annually, including three weeks of flexible paid time off and three weeks of institutional paid time off (Thanksgiving week, post-Festival/Workshop, and winter holiday).
Retirement: SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with ACMC matching up to 3% of employee contributions.
Health Insurance: Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO plan fully covered by ACMC, with only a mandatory $3/month employee deduction.
Dental/Vision Insurance: Fully covered by ACMC.
