VOLUNTEER, MOTHER, BUSINESS OWNER and AUSTINITE SINCE 1991!
Susan and her family moved to Austin in 1991 when her husband accepted a transfer while working for Apple Computer. Prior to that, they lived in Nashville, TN where she worked for the Tennessee State Architect’s office.
Susan left her job in 1987 when she had her son to devote her attention to her family and raising Drew. When Drew turned five, Susan returned to work at Apple Computer in Austin, working as an executive assistant and later in a sales support role. After a 6-year stint with Apple, Susan left and started a successful estate sale business, which she owned and managed for five years. Susan left this business to return her attention to her family and became involved locally with several non-profits including the Women’s Symphony League, Texas Elder Options and the Austin Lyric Opera. She spent three years as VP of Merchandising for the Austin Lyric Opera Guild running its Boutique. Last year Susan co-chaired the successful ALO Guild Fine Wine Auction and dinner at the Four Seasons.
Susan gets much enjoyment from her non-profit work, feeling it has enriched her life greatly. She is a huge fan of many different types of music including chamber, choral, and symphonic music along with opera and more contemporary music including Austin’s live music scene.
In her spare time, Susan and her husband Jerry, who is a pilot, enjoy trips in their airplane to destinations in the U.S. and beyond. Jerry also volunteers for Angel Flight, a non-profit organization that flies cancer patients for treatment and other humanitarian missions. Susan frequently accompanies Jerry on these missions.
Susan received her degree in Architectural Engineering at Nashville State College.
