In the Fall of 2014, QuinTexas formed as a group of doctoral performance candidates within the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin. The group was awarded the 2015 Coleman-Saunderson Prize in Winds, Brass, and Percussion at the 69th Annual Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition in Pasadena, California, granted the Odyssey Chamber Music Series Honorable Mention at the 2015 Plowman Chamber Music Competition in Columbia, Missouri, and received an invitation to compete in the 2015 Plovdiv International Chamber Music Competition in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Since their inaugural year, they have paired high standards of artistry and collaboration with a commitment to education and community engagement. QuinTexas has been an invited guest ensemble in established recital series’ held throughout Central Texas, including the Midday Music Series at the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin, ‘Feed Your Soul’ Concerts at Dell Children’s Medical Center, the Excessive Noise Concert Series of the University of Texas’ Fine Arts Library, the Margaret Alkek Williams Crain Garden Performance Series at the Houston Methodist Hospital, and additional programs at the Westminster Retirement Community of Austin, Hallettsville Cultural Events Center, and Central Presbyterian Church of Austin. Enthusiastic educators, the ensemble has worked with the Austin Chamber Music Center to present educational concerts in public schools throughout the Austin Independent School District, and have been featured guests in recitals and master classes at Baylor University, The University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Current pursuits for this 2015-2016 academic year include more competition preparation, ongoing educational and community engagements, and exploring opportunities in commissioning new works for the wind quintet medium.
