Grace Song is a 15 year old violinist and a 10th grader at Westwood High School. She studies with Mr. Kyung-Joo Sung.
Grace’s achievements includes winning the 2012 Austin Symphony Youth Award, giving her the opportunity to perform with the Austin Symphony and to tour around with the Austin Symphony to high schools in Austin. She also was chosen as one of finalists for The Juanita Miller Concerto Competition, Dallas, Texas and The Pearl Amster Youth Concerto Competition, Austin, Texas. In May, 2012, Grace won The 5th Asian American Community Partnership Competition, which gave her the opportunity to perform a solo at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, Austin, Texas.
In 2012, Grace has been invited to perform with the Westwood High School Percussion Ensemble at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. Additionally, Grace has been invited to play in the Honor Orchestra of America 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She has been chosen to be in the Texas All State Orchestra 2012 and 2013, and has won the gold medal and earned the distinguished honor of being recognized as an Outstanding Soloist at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest. She has been named Concertmaster numerous times, such as the Region 26 Middle School Orchestra in 2010, TMEA Honor Middle School Orchestra, Canyon Vista Middle School Orchestra, Austin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and many other orchestras. Among a few members of the Austin Youth Orchestra, she was chosen to perform with the Austin Symphony Orchestra for their annual Christmas Sing-Along three years in a row. Currently, Grace is a member of Chamber Music in Public Schools (CHAMPS), the Austin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Westwood High School Symphony Orchestra.
Aside from violin, Grace has been an accomplished pianist. She has won numerous piano competitions, including the ADMTA Piano Solo Competition.
In the summer, Grace attends Meadowmount School of Music in New York. At Meadowmount, she has been honored to perform in a master class for James Ehnes and Steve Rochen, and she has participated in master classes taught by Hans Jensen, Ann Setzer, Gerardo Ribiero, Melissa Kraut, Joseph Silverstein, William van der Sloot, Tong Wei Dong, and Lynn Harrell. Recently, Grace was invited to perform in a master class for professional violinist, Jennifer Fraustchi.
Whenever she gets the opportunity to not practice, Grace enjoys spending time with her family and friends and listening to all genres of music.
