Critically acclaimed pianist Anne Epperson enjoys a successful career as a performer, teacher, recording artist and clinician. Appointed in 2008 as Professor of Collaborative Piano at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, she has created a new graduate degree program there. Prior to her move to Austin, she was Professor of Collaborative Piano at the University of Colorado – Boulder (2004-2008), Director of Keyboard Collaborative Arts at the University of California – Santa Barbara (2001 – 2004) and head of the Collaborative Piano Department at the Cleveland Institute of Music (1985 – 2001). She also has held faculty appointments at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Active in many summer festivals as performer and coach, she was a member of the faculty at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California from 1992 – 2006 and created the collaborative piano program there. Since 2007 she has been on the artist faculty of the Colorado College Summer Music Festival and in the summer of 2013 she will be a member of the artist faculty at the Aspen Music Festival and will administer the collaborative program there.
Following her undergraduate studies at the Juilliard School and Louisiana State University, she began graduate work at the University of Southern California where she was appointed staff pianist for the masterclasses of famed violinist Jascha Heifetz. This auspicious beginning led to a distinguished performance career as collaborative partner, including eight years of touring the United States as pianist in the Canterbury Trio with violinist David Cerone and cellist Jennifer Langham, under the auspices of Columbia Artists Management, Inc.
Ms. Epperson has traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe, Israel, South America, Scandinavia and Asia as a recital partner with many notable colleagues. Critics have praised her artistry: New York Times “ an excellent partner… technical ability and musicality admirably displayed” : Cleveland Plain Dealer “… Epperson is a chamber music pianist with few peers”. Ms. Epperson has served as an adjudicator for national and international competitions including the Walter W. Naumburg Competitions in New York City, the Fischoff , Coleman and Plowman Chamber Music Competitions and the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards.
