How is ChamberFlex different than the Young Artists Academy?
- ChamberFlex has a flexible rehearsal schedule and location whereas the Academy has set rehearsals and location every Saturday
- ChamberFlex just incorporates chamber music rehearsals/coachings whereas the Academy has a theory/composition component in addition to chamber music rehearsals/coaching
- ChamberFlex has only 8 coaching sessions for the year whereas the Academy has 24 coaching sessions for the year
How often and where does our ensemble rehearse? (outside of coaching sessions)
Ensembles should meet weekly as regularly as possible for approximately one hour at a member’s home or another location that works for the ensemble. Rehearsals will start in October and the first coaching session should be scheduled in late October or early November. Ensembles can choose the most centrally located home or ensembles may decide to switch between homes. Meeting regularly, outside coachings, is the only way to make consistent progress and is a requirement of this program.
How does our ensemble schedule rehearsals and coaching sessions?
At orientation, or prior, each member will provide times and days they are available to rehearse as well as stating any timeframes that a member cannot rehearse (ex. if you’re out of town). A parent liaison and lead ensemble member will help put together a rehearsal schedule and send it out to parents and ensemble members. The parent liaison and lead ensemble member will send the ensembles availability to the ACMC Director of Education who will contact the assigned coach to work out coaching sessions initially. After that, the parent liaison and lead ensemble member will communicate directly with the chamber coach and alert the Director of Education with updates/changes. Coaching locations will be determined by the coach.
What happens if a member isn’t able to attend a rehearsal?
This program is designed for students to be responsible and dependable ensemble members so being respectful of everyone’s time is crucial. Students/parents must contact all other students/parents within AT LEAST 24 hours to cancel a rehearsal. Canceling should only be done because of an emergency, as it creates hardship on the group. Students may not cancel more than one rehearsal. If they do, the parent liaison and lead ensemble member needs to contact the Director of Education. Students who miss multiple rehearsals may be replaced without refund.
What is the procedure for canceling a scheduled coaching session?
It can be difficult to reschedule coaching sessions as the coaches have very active performance and teaching schedules. All changes need to be AT LEAST 5 days in advance. If a student misses a coaching, the parent liaison and lead ensemble member must contact the Director of Education. Students who miss coachings may be replaced without refund.
What if my ensemble, or coach, wants to do extra coaching sessions?
If the ensemble, or the coach, request more coaching sessions after the eight that will be scheduled, the ensemble must clear it with the Director of Education first. The ensemble will be required to pay ACMC an $80 fee, per extra coaching, before the coaching takes place. Any extra coaching session must be scheduled before May 12, 2017.
What is the role of the parents, ensemble members, parent liaison, and lead ensemble member?
The parent liaison and lead ensemble member is responsible for organizing the schedule for rehearsals and coachings. Parents need to encourage students to learn their parts, and adhere to the rehearsal schedule. Parents can also help make the experience highly enjoyable for students by providing treats and allowing time after rehearsals for students to socialize. It is recommended that parents not be in the room during rehearsals. It’s our goal that students learn how to communicate and work together as a team in and outside of coaching sessions.
